Apples, Anyone?

Let's say we're playing the game, "Family Feud" and the challenge question is "Name a Fruit." What do you think the Number 1 answer would be? Hands down, it would be apple. At least it would be in our country. After all, the phrase says that something is as American as apple pie. Actually, I'd say it's the most versatile and useful fruit from a cooking standpoint. What other shows up in so many ways on our plates?
  • applesauce. What in the world would we do without it? It's one of the first foods for young babies, in fact! Most of us eat it all through life. But seldom do we eat pear sauce, orange sauce, watermelon sauce, strawberry sauce, and so on. It's also a tried and true substitute for fats in baking.
  • apple juice. What juice gets served more to kids than this one?
  • apple cakes & breads. There are hundreds of variations.
  • apple pie. Again, it spells "American."
  • Misc. Apples get put in salads, get candied, get made into their own butter, get shredded, get sliced and coated, get fried, and get to go on more picnics and in more lunches than we could imagine.
Unfortunately, this "unparalleled king of the fruit world" has even been accused of causing the downfall of the human race, but of course this is not substantiated in Scripture.

The main purpose of this article is that we think about ways you can enjoy this fruit gift from God with your children. Of course, apple picking and applesauce making are two favorites. Hopefully, the links included will give you some fun ideas which incorporate the "apple" idea. Perhaps you and your sons and daughters will find much to enjoy at these places. I also hope any health tips will encourage you to give apples their rightful place in your kids' diets.

UPDATE: Most of the links we had originally posted have been disabled as they are no longer operable. So sorry about that.
